Agent Carter Cancelled

Oh come on!

I'm super disappointed there won't be any more episodes. I still have so many questions!

Oh no! That makes me super sad. I haven't enjoyed a show that much in such a long time. And I want to know answers to things!

Couldn't we at least have, like, three episodes to wrap up loose ends or something? Who killed/maybe only serious injured Thompson? What happened to Dottie? Why did Sousa and Peggy ever break up in the first place, or did they even date, and why did he go to LA to get away from her?

I'm not really surprised it didn't get picked up again. It was super niche, with the period setting and single-arc plot line, and female-lead show. But still. I want more platonic male-female epic friendship adventures in my life.

At least there's fanfic? And we have free rein to do what we want for it, mostly.

This show was so wonderfully new and progressive, I should not be at all shocked it got canceled. But still!

I know, I also have tons of questions. Can they do even a one TV movie type thing to answer any of them? Yeah, who did shoot Thompson? Was it HYDRA? Is Peggy going to stay in LA now or go back to NY? Do she and Sousa work out? Does Angie ever make it on Broadway? When does Howard Stark go from Dominic Cooper to John Slattery??? Questions, so many questions!

I seriously hope that they might, at some point. Just to wrap things up a little. I mean, they won't, probably, but...please? You have these characters, surely you could use them somewhere in the 'verse. Even some Agents of SHIELD flashbacks? Not that I watch AOS, but would look at the flashbacks.

Questions, so many questions!

It makes the most sense to me that Sousa is who Peggy marries. We don't know much of his backstory, but it would fit that he was one of the people Steve freed from the HYDRA facility, and either lost his leg later, or had already lost his leg. They seemed to dance around how he lost it, which made me suspect they were waiting for a Big Reveal moment. There were some lines in Season 2 that made me think we were going to find out. But we didn't.

If it makes you feel any better, in that head canon where I accidentally gave Angie and Bond a daughter, Angie totally makes it on a Broadway and becomes a recognizable, but not super-famous actress who makes a living at it.

If we never learn more about her, I'm just going to assume that she became a big star. Maybe she moved out to LA to live with Peggy, and Howard put her in a movie, and she was totally the MCU version of Katherine Hepburn or something.

When does Howard Stark go from Dominic Cooper to John Slattery?

I have this hilarious image of a tracking shot down a hallway and Dominic Cooper goes through one doorway and John Slattery comes out on the other side.

Peggy: Have your eyes changed colour since this morning?
Howard: Yep. Anyway, check out this thing I built...

I'm just going to assume it. Since the show won't be able to tell me anything different now, I'll just happily go with it.

And I'll also assume that Thompson died. And it's not even because I hate him. I actually grew to like Thompson or rather what the show did with his character. He ended up having layers and wasn't just there for us to loathe him. This is why the show was awesome! But sadly, I'm thinking someone expert was sent in to kill Thompson so logically the odds are against him surviving.

They cast Hope Davis as Maria in the Civil War movie. It's like they purposefully hired two actors who look least likely to produce a child that looks like RDJ. At least with Dominic Cooper I could see the family resemblance.

And I'll also assume that Thompson died.

Yeah, it makes sense that the hook for next season was supposed to be finding his killer(s).

I ended up liking Thompson enough as well. They did a good job of using him as a different POV in Season Two. He was very Utilitarian to Peggy's Kantian philosophy of Why People Should Or Should Not Be Saved, and How We Should Do The Saving of Them.

But you know what bothered me all season? How did people get around so fast? I have no idea how long the season took within the universe, but Thompson was bopping from coast to coast and over to England and back like he was just driving down the street. Even steampunk!1947 didn't have that fast moving planes.

At least with Dominic Cooper I could see the family resemblance.

Dominic Cooper was a brilliant choice of casting for many reasons. My mom is a big Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark fan. Poor Mom, I accidentally got her emotionally invested in AC during Season Two, and now it's all over. She was sad when I told it was cancelled.

I'm off to bed. G'night!

This is true. Does the SSR have a teleportation device they're sitting on?

I'm with your mom. I really liked Cooper as Howard Stark. I keep hoping that they put him back in somewhere but it seems like post-birth of Tony, it'll always be John Slattery.

I guess I'll just have to migrate over to watching Cooper on Preacher and see how that goes.

I don't know. I mean, it's possible their technology was ahead of our 1947, but even today it takes 10.5 hours to get from London to L.A, and Thompson seems to have been there, wormed his way into getting info about Peggy by going out for a night on the town, and got back by the next morning. Though time moved weird in Season 2. I don't know how many days it took to solve the case, but whether it was morning or night seemed very arbitrary. Sometimes I swear it was night in one part of L.A and day in a different part.

I was just checking my screen cap collection. In episode three, the 'tomorrow's newspaper today' is dated July 16, 1947. I thought Jarvis' will was dated July 19th, 1947, but he actually wrote it on the 9th of July, looking at the caps. Which is maybe before he even started the case? And by the end of the Season, he's telling Peggy it's going to sleet in New York, and she says she's have to wait six months for sun, or something. But that might be Jarvis' trying to get her to stay, not the truth.

I don't know. Probably just continuity errors. Most people don't look at screen caps for hours in order to pick out ones for icons.

Hayley Attwell has a new series coming too, I believe.

If fans did the editing for the shows they love, I feel it'd be a flawless show, continuity-wise.

Yes, Conviction. I wish I was more into the summary of the show. Although it'll be interesting to see her play an American.

But a nightmare for the writers and editors.

"Okay, I'm sorry, but in Season 1, Episode 4, Bob clearly states that he's never been to Boston, but now, nine seasons later, he suddenly has an aunt there? This aunt, who in Season 6, Episode 21, he says is his favourite aunt, who he used to stay with when his parents went out of town. How could he never have been to Boston? Hmmm?"

"But...but, it's just a line. It doesn't affect the plot. He's just saying that as part of the joke about--"

"It's not canon!"

It does seem a very generic kind of show, but the premise is interesting sounding. ABC seems to have a lineup of shows about angry women doing questionable things at the moment, I hope it won't be another one of them.

"Oh, someone will notice. Trust me. Someone will notice."

As an example of this: the Periodic Table of Elements in the SSR is modern, with elements that haven't been discovered yet.

On the other hand, there are details that I didn't notice my first time through, like when Jarvis enters Peggy's musical dream sequence, he's surrounded by Dottie, Whitney, and Ana. And Ana is really flexible.

[identity profile] joonscribble.livejournal.com 2016-05-16 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Even though I knew a musical dream was coming, I was still sort of stunned when it happened.

I totally did not know that! Good detail!

Me, too, but I do think it worked for the season. If you take out the Dark Matter arc for the season, and are left with all the character beats, what you have is a 1940s musical comedy plot line. Love triangle, slapstick, sassy female heroine uncertain about which man to choose. Comical misunderstandings about people's intentions. Even the colours are heightened like technicolor (in comparison to Season 1's more washed out, greyer palette), and they put a haze filter on the camera, to fuzz the lines, rather than have the clear, crisp HD look of modern shows. It's a 1940s hollywood musical set in 1940s Hollywood.
.
I totally did not know that! Good detail!

I probably should have said 'hadn't been discovered yet'. I meant, it's not accurate to 1947. It's a modern table. I was wondering if they'd put Vibranium on there, but they hadn't. But they did sneak Arc reactor windows in Howard's lab, so the set decorators are kind of awesome anyway.

These are the best kind of Easter eggs.

I am crushed.

In my head, she marries Daniel; Thompson survives despite a professional hit because he's one of those people whose organs are in slightly the wrong places; Rose goes on to a great career as a field agent because no one ever suspects her of anything; and Dottie is never recaptured but often suspected of being the cause of secrets going missing or inventions being stolen.

[identity profile] joonscribble.livejournal.com 2016-05-18 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with all this head canon except the Thompson one. In my mind, Thompson dies. Not that I didn't start to like him toward the end of season 2 but I'm convinced the assassin that went for him is too competent.

Now we'll never see the formation of SHIELD or hundreds of other awesome adventures starring Peggy. :(
