As cheesy as it sounds, I totally *heart* Heartlands
. Even if it's a movie where seemingly nothing happens. It's a small, sweet British film about a man, described so aptly by one reviewer as "ever so slightly simple" who hops on his motorbike to follow his wife who left him for the captain of his darts team. And that's about it. Along the way, of course, he has life changing experiences that to the general audience don't seem THAT life changing.
But I loved the movie to pieces. The director of photography was amazing and the music so wonderfully perfect. I've never been so invested in the story of a man who spends 90 minutes just riding around the northern English countryside. I even ended up making icons out of some of the shots and really, they don't do the film even remote justice.
If you enjoy action films, this probably isn't the one for you. But it's a good movie for people who are content with lovely colors, imagery and some fine acting. Hi again, Michael Sheen! I totally forgive you for Underworld
now. Seriously, it takes talent to turn a character like Colin from seeming a complete pathetic fool to just being a slightly naive sweetheart. There were once the ever so faintest rumors floating years back that Sheen might be in the running to play Doctor Who (yeah, completely untrue), but after seeing this movie I can see why people would want him in that role. It probably also helps that he looks like Tom Baker's long lost son.
