Amidst the heat wave and me trying to edit down my current WIP fic (I need weed killer! It cannot grow!), I've been listening and/or watching old anime series I'd enjoyed in the past.

We'll Need a Few Billion Dollar Budget. )

Hellsing's manga run finally came to an end. I'd sort of jumped out of this fandom for awhile because Hirano had gone in some random directions that kind of made me go "Wha is the huh now?" But I couldn't resist seeing how it all ended so I took a peek. And seriously, the last few panels made it all worth while.

Okay, completely unrelated to my subject header, but I just read a recap of the latest Hellsing manga installment and....I don't know if I need to start crying and gnashing my teeth or start gearing up for a Full Both Arms Thrust Up in the Air Hooray! God, draw faster Hirano!!

Anyway, onto the actual topic:

My mother, who is an intense Doctor Who fan herself, has enlisted me in helping her write a Doctor Who script. Just for a laugh. As she's completely UNAWARE of my intense dabblings in writing Dresden fic, I found the entire thing to be hilarious and ironic. We actually ended up staying awake into the wee hours brainstorming and I'm shocked to say we actuall have something.

As large a fan as my mother is of things, I NEVER would have pegged her to enter into the world of fandom. Guess I now know where I got it. Heh.

Okay, so my Geek Brain cracked. Here is what spilled out.

It's not exactly a comparative essay, since that tends to suggest concise writing and organized thoughts. This is more a rundown of factoids for each character, followed by a ramble analysis of what makes these two so alike and so different at the same time.

The following has pretty big spoilers of The Dresden Files TV Series if you consider we only have 12 episodes to work with and a good chunk of Bob's backstory is revealed as part of the episodes' plotline. But there are only minor spoilers for Hellsing if you consider we have a 13 episode anime, an 8 volumes and still counting manga and 3 OAVs and still counting collection to work with. Plus, Alucard's backstory is never really revealed as an important component to each episode/story. It's just kind of thrown in to keep the readers/viewers wanting more.
